Growing Up in the 90’s: Countdown of the 21 Top Commercials

I Love the 90's Picture

Ironic that all the 90’s commercials that we loathed more than homework on a Sunday night, have become some of our favorite childhood memories? Yes indeed! Thus why All Groan Up presents a jaunt down nostalgia lane with:

The Top 21 Commercials of Our 90’s Childhood! Enjoy!

Picture of Hot Pockets Box. Was there a Sweeter Pocket of Goodness?

21. Hot Pocket

Seriously, what are you going to pick? Leftover turkey sandwich? Mom’s meatloaf? Or a sweet cocoon of cheesy-pepporoni-gloriousness? Whomever had Hot Pockets in their kitchen cupboard, was a serious factor in what house I begged my mom to let me sleep over. What was I going to pick? They didn’t even need to ask.

20. Hungry, Hungry Hippos

19. Fruity Pebbles

Fruity Pebbles. Christmas commercial. This is a sweeter combo than the high-fructose-milk left in the bowl.

18. Yikes! Stripes! Fruit Stripes Gum

17. Guess Who?

Does your person have a beard? Does your person wear glasses? Does it make sense we were so entertained by Guess Who? Oh and the game cards don’t really talk. So don’t call the company complaining that they’ve given you a defective game. They don’t like that.

16. Go Joe!

15. Skip-It

Me and Skip-It did not get along. It was more like Trip-It. Kick-It. Throw-It. Hate-It. Doo-Hop-Hop.

14. Saturday Morning TV Line-Up

If we don’t have a commercial re-living a Saturday morning cartoon line-up, well then we don’t have our childhood.

13. Reese’s

Holy 90’s did I love Reese’s. But there’s no wrong way to eat a Reese’s? Really?! As I was 12 years old with love-handles that looked like I was hiding soda cans, I found plenty of wrong ways to eat a Reese’s.

12. My Little Pony

If I hear I‘m a my little pony mommy one more time…

11. Sega Genesis Does

Move over Nintendo. Sega is taking over. I loved you both as brothers.

10. Ring-Pop

I love the way your ring looks. I love the way my ring tastes. Truth.

9. Snick At Night

The dancing in this promo is worth the shout-out alone. But then throw in Ren and Stimpy. Clarissa Explains it All. Are You Afraid of the Dark? By golly, Nickelodeon knew what it was doing.

8. Bubble Tape

7. Micro-Machines

If it doesn’t say micro-machines, well than you’ve been duped. Stupid.

6. Bagel Bites

If pizza on a bagel is not one of the Wonders of the World, we need someone else making these decisions.

5. Lite-Brite

4. TGIF Lineup

Family Matters. Boy Meets World. Step by Step. Hangin with Mr. Cooper. Need I say more? Flashback to sitting cross-legged on your living room floor with a Mountain Dew in one hand and your childhood in the other.

3. My Buddy and Kid Sister

My Buddy and Kid Sister both in one commercial. Not possible! you say defiantly. Well behold below. My Buddy and Kid Sister? Yes sir.

2. Mentos

The Freshmaker. Was there anything problems that Mentos couldn’t solve? Mentos needs to look into cures for cancer. Srrriously.

1. Tootsie Roll Pop

This commercial was made in the 80’s but it sculpted our 90’s. How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll pop? When I die, that’s the first question I’m asking God.

A hysterically fabulous way to spend 5 minutes. Brought me back!

I know, right? It was a hysterically fabulous/ridiculous way for me to spend a couple hours compiling.

Who would’ve thought the commercials I used to loathe the most now make me feel all warmly nostalgic inside.
